PAPA Reflection on Change

PAPA Reflection on Change

Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas. How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not? I had not compared the scores until this unit and I am happy to report some progress. In the spiritual domain I rated myself as an 8 and this has increased to a 9 as I have been able to implement one of my goals to include another time of devotion during the day. In the psychological domain I have gone from a 7 to an 8 and in the physical domain, I have gone from a 5 to a 7. Psychologically, I am learning to train my thoughts and to develop the subtle mind. I have implemented an exercise routine by establishing a time and a place for it at the beginning of my day. I feel like this course has benefited me personally by helping me to realize how a noisy, unfocused mind can lead to less than optimal wellness. There are some precepts that I held at the beginning of class that still hold such as; healing begins on the inside. I knew how stress affects the body, mind and spirit-its' role in disease. I knew the role of reframing one's thoughts and keeping a positive attitude, but did not place much stock in meditation or visualization. I now know what it means to train the mind and this knowledge is dynamic and transforming. By witnessing your thoughts you begin the journey in a place of honesty. You can begin to tame your own worst enemy-the one who knows you best with all of your vulnerabilities. In spiritual circles this is the adversary of the soul. I believe from this place I can help those who truly want wellness. I will recommend the relaxation, meditation and visualization techniques to my clients along with their conventional treatments. I will continue to read books and other thing to focus on the task like T.D. Jake Reposition Yourself

Papa Wisdom

It time to listen to Papa speak his wisdom so open your mind and heart to receive all that he is given you.

Introduction:
Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?

I don’t see how we can help another to choose health and human flourishing if we cannot put into practice what we espouse. We need to be authentic because it is in authenticity that our passion will become evident. How can we reach someone where they are if we have not been there? It would be like the adage-“The blind leading the blind”. I have gained many insights from this course and one of the primary ones is that healing begins at home or with me. It is this conclusion that is the basis for integral health. Western medicine always looks for the remedy to apply to the person, but integral flourishing uses the gifts we humans have hard wired into our beings. We need to start from a place of wellness in order to show someone else that it can be done. Showing is so much better than telling. I need to continually work on all areas of my well-being. The whole is made up of units and I believe that continuous focus to all areas will allow me to stay balanced. I believe it is not something that can be fixed once and then left on remote control, but I believe that daily adjustments, goal assessments and evaluations will be necessary to track and measure progress. I will record my goals in a journal and reevaluate them weekly. I think the most important strategy will be practicing mindfulness because this is where I struggle the most. Dasher’s (2006) Theory states that psychological growth is the catalyst for spiritual development and for me personally Spiritual development is the highest priority, I believe when the Spiritual and Psychological aspects of self are flourishing the body does not have a choice but to follow. Many times our approach to wellness in the West could be compared to a Captain trying to maneuver a massive ship without a rudder. Traditional medicine could be seen as focusing on the wind, the seas or the lifeboats, but Integral health would look inside the boat to find the equipment to navigate.
Assessment:
How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically? Before this class I was very unclear about with way my spiritual life was going and at that time I would have said about 4 or 5 and going down I was not read or studying the word but know I would say it on the way up. Physically and psychologically is always a journey I have some walls in dealing with stress on a regular basis. Therefore, a stronger base of meditation is needed. . A quiet, still and focused mind will produce good fruit in the spirit and body. I would rate the physical domain as a 7. I know that I need to implement more consistent exercise in my daily routine.

Goal development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.  I pray and meditate daily. I have a special place and time to pray to start the day and I converse with God throughout the day. By the time evening comes, I am so exhausted and being grateful for sleep, I thank Him for the day and his blessings. I would like to give equal time to my devotions in the evening as well as in the morning. So the goal would be to take time to reflect on the day to bless Him more fully and completely. In the psychological domain, I would love to be able to draw upon the time that I spend developing the subtle mind and carry this into situations that I find the most stressful. In the physical domain, I would love to be at the place where a regular exercise routine is the norm rather than the exception.

Practices for personal health:
What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example. In the spiritual domain, I can see that I will need to establish a time and a place for reflection and prayer at the end of the day. It will be the time and the place that will help me to establish a routine or habit. Like any habit that is formed familiar surroundings will help to support a routine. I know that I cannot be horizontal at this time of day because I will fall asleep. Strategies for physical growth are easy for me to determine. I can add more resistance training to my workout. I will add one exercise for each target muscle group when working that muscle group. I will add hiking to my exercise regime to get more cardio and enjoy the outdoors. Walking and hiking are excellent ways to get a good workout.

Commitment:
How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness? I recently bought a journal to begin writing down my thoughts and feelings each day. I will use this journal to track how I feel about my physical, psychological and spiritual growth. This way I can see if something is or is not working and make changes accordingly. The journal can also be an outlet for stress by writing down the negative thoughts and feelings and getting rid of them (Dacher, 2006). In order to maintain my long-term practices for health and wellness, I will ask for assistance from others. I will keep an open mind and try some of the other techniques. If the technique is not for me, then I will know. But maybe I will stumble across something that works great or someone who can be a mentor (Dacher, 2006).

(Loving Kindness, Subtle mind, Visualization, meditation etc.)

Review the exercises and practice sessions you have completed in this course. (Loving Kindness, Subtle mind, Visualization, meditation etc.) Choose two practices that you have determined to be most beneficial. How can you implement these practices in your personal life to foster “mental fitness”? Provide specific examples.

I believe that the two examples that I thought were most beneficial were the subtle mind and meditation in general are the best practices for me. I enjoyed the subtle mind practice because it allows us to bring focus to our breathing and focus on that. Focusing on my breathing allowed me to not drift away and my mind could focus more so than on the other exercises. I feel that in order to obtain “mental fitness” we need to be able to focus and train our minds to become tame and not get distracted as easily. I feel that the subtle mind and meditation allows me to do this more effectively than the others. I can implement these into my personal life by doing them on a daily basis. I think that meditation and focusing on my breathing will make my mind more calm and allow me to become a more patient loving person. In order to achieve mental fitness, it has to be worked on every day in order to achieve the results that lead to human flourishing.

YOU CAN NOT LEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN THERE

Complete the Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life to foster greater health and wellness?

I find try to get the habit of doing these exercise can help with spiritual growth. I believe that physical, emotional and mental health needs to be tested from time to time. Meditation has allowed me to witness my reactions quite easily. It’s natural for me to spontaneously go into a calm-abiding consciousness during the day as well which brings me overwhelming peace and incredible serenity.

Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (p.477). How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why or why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life? I think that the writer is saying that people will do what they like and how can you show me something that you know nothing about. Like how can you tell me about being married and you are not. I can’t preach to another about understanding their own mental/emotional hang-ups if I don’t work to understand my own. Therefore I try to be very curious when I get triggered and understand my unconscious fears and motivations.

Always seek GOD wisdom before my own thought Meditation and pray. A men should pray at all time for guidance.

PAPA KNOWS BEST

Unit 6- Loving Kindness & Integral Assessment
IN life we must focus and understand the world.

Loving kindness is a universal concept found in many religions, including Buddhism and Christianity. It is about accepting things as they are, it's kindness, good will, love, amity and friendship. In order to benefit from loving kindness, we have to alter our thoughts. There is no better way to start practicing loving kindness by giving ourselves love. Start to accept our own shortcomings. Notice that no one is perfect, so now is a good time to stop belittling yourself. When we are kind, friendly, honest, open and loving to ourselves, we gradually develop the emotional capacity to be kind to the people around us. I close my eyes, visualize a situation that has been bothering me, I get the job no extra money this was a disappointing event. I focus on new ways to get a rise and how to put it to work. Loving kindness meditation, help me to let go of the negative self image and the past mistakes that I had made by thinking of better ways to work with these things..  I learn to see that I can grow and evolve, and there is no need to drill on the past as long as I learn the lessons they are trying to teach you. I was able to gradually see that although I have my imperfections,  also have a side that is very gorgeous, loving and wise. When you start to develop this loving kindness towards myself,  I have a better self image, and become ready to enjoy what life can offer.

Complete the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 (p.115).

Okay done~

3. Describe the exercise and assessment process. What did you discover about yourself? What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? Why? What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area?

For me I think the exercise was something that might have been needed. I am very happy with my life, the people in it and so on. I do not need anything and want very little, I try to be humble and thankful for what I have, However there is time when I lick focus and need to grow in this area but thought meditation and prayer I can see a better path. I know that distress can be hard but with learning how to focus on love and kindness we can be healed. Kindness and stay positive is the key to a health live have a bless week. PAPA CHEF
